Lying is a deliberate choice to mislead a target without giving any notification of the intent to do so. There are two major forms of lying: concealment, leaving out the true information; and falsification, or presenting false information as if it were true. Other ways to lie include: misdirecting, acknowledging an emotion but misidentifying what caused it; telling the truth falsely, or admitting the truth but with such exaggeration or humour that the target remains uninformed or misled; half concealment, or admitting only part of what is true, so as to deflect the target’s interest in what remains concealed; and the incorrect-inference dodge, or telling the truth but in a way that implies the opposite of what is said. There are two kinds of clues to deceit: leakage, when the liar inadvertently reveals the truth, and deception clues, when the liar’s behaviour reveals only that what he says is untrue.
Both leakage and deception clues are mistakes. They do not always happen. Not all lies fail ...
From Telling Lies by Paul Ekman 1985
How many times were you deceived? Can you tell? or do you need a fortune teller??
:)... the fortune teller could help... paradoxically, "lies", in all their forms make our lives more civilized.... some things are just better left unsaid!
ReplyDelete(this being said: i hate liers and their lies!)
Well... I don´t talk much with people. That´s why I don´t know how many times I was deceived. But I lie to myself almost every day. And I would like to hear some lies too. Some "specific" lies. There´s a song of a very famous brazilian singer called Cazuza (who died of AIDS some years ago...) that says: "Sincere lies are welcome".
ReplyDeleteMaya, i agree, civilization is the fruit of lies, many diffrent faces and forms of lies. Sure, somethings are better left unsaid... this is not what i want to talk about, as a matter of fact the definition of lies in that post is an introduction for a set of short stories that i'm writing where men and women lie with clear consience. For when they do not "falsify" the truth they think that they are not lying, and that is my take against lying. Why don't we simply accept the fact that we lie, we mislead we conceal just to get what we want....
ReplyDeleteWolfy, sincere anything are always welcome...
Er... what about some new posts? It would be good, isn´t it?
ReplyDeletei can't recall how many time i was deceived.
ReplyDeleteThere's always a first time, but if things got worse, one has to think consciously and slowly about the realtionship he is sharing with the other partner, whether he is a lover or a casual friend
lies are all around.Rare are the ones who believe in full honesty or in applying their true principles.
Anyway, hope u walk on a path free of liars and deceivers
